I remember years ago hearing Marilyn Manson talk about creating a “dark bible”, one that focused on the more horrific elements of the bible: Children being eaten by bears, rape, murder, and “fool” flingers being doomed to an eternity in hell. Now I read that the students at Iowa College have gone and made real Manson’s idea… on stage! Check out Terror Texts The Musical. Btw, you know the end is near when Christian kids start acting out Marilyn Manson’s ideas. Repent!

The Green Gamer
An interesting post regarding energy usage of consoles over at Ars Technica. The article talks about how much energy our gaming consoles use per year and the relative impact of this energy usage. It also talks about how to be an eco-friendly gamer: “By incorporating these practices, the NDRC claims that the United States’ electricity bill could be cut by more than $1 billion. Not only that, but it would help, “[reduce] emissions of more than 7 million tons of CO 2 each year—an amount equal to the global warming pollution from all the cars on the road in San Jose, our nation’s high-tech capital.” Read the full report here.
Charlie the Unicorn
Honestly, I have no idea what the hell it’s all about, but whatever it is, it’s funny: Charlie the Unicorn 2
Birth of a Titan
From GameDaily: Epic Games China announced today the opening of Titan Studios. This Seattle-based subsidiary is designed to use Unreal Engine 3 for original titles and support partners using Epic Games China’s outsourcing services. Titan Studios is currently working on multiple Unreal Engine 3-based projects, including an MMO. Titan’s first project is called Fat Princess; the game was announced for PSN during Sony’s keynote at E3 earlier this year. The studio is run by my good friend Paul Meegan, and I’m wishing him and his team the best of luck!
Gabe Newell on Entering the Industry
Valve’s Newell did an interesting interview with Dave Perry in which he says, “The best thing to do is to start making content using the mod tools that are out there,” said Newell. “Whether you use Civilization or Warcraft III or Hammer doesn’t matter as much as that you are building and shipping stuff to customers, getting their feedback, and then iterating your work. mod development is better in a lot of ways of both honing your skills and demonstrating your talent to a potential employer than work experience as there are going to be fewer institutional barriers and creative constraints to limit the work you do.”
Michael Crichton Died
From The LA Times: Author Michael Crichton has died at age 66 after “a private battle with cancer.” Crichton’s career was probably one of a kind: After training as a doctor at Harvard and working as a fellow at the Jonas Salk Institute, he became a bestselling author, then a successful screenwriter, award-winning movie director and TV producer. The movie “Jurassic Park,” based on his book and on which he shared screenwriting credit, is the No. 10 top grossing film of all time. I spent some time working with Crichton – enough to gain immense respect for his intellect, creativity, and the way he lived his life. If you’ve never known him beyond his books and films, I suggest you read his autobiography, Travels.
