Insane Children in The Heart of Wonderland

Dear Insane Children,

Happy 2021! Here’s hoping your year is already off to a great start. We’re heading into the Chinese calendar year of the “Metal Bull” – and I’m going to say we should interpret that as the year that we Rock-And-Roll while nothing can stop us. According to The Internets:

Is 2021 a lucky year? The 4 most fortunate Chinese zodiac signs in 2021: According to the Chinese Zodiac, 2021 is more of a lucky year for men and women born in the Year of the Ox, the Year of the Snake, the Year of the Rooster, and the Year of the Rat.

Being a rat (and Yan is too), all I can say is: RAWR!

How many of our Insane Children are also among 2021’s list of lucky animals?

Speaking of Insane Children, we’re working on a scene where Alice meets The Knave (a former Insane Child turned servant of The Queen) as she makes her way to the Royal Court.

Omri sent over a sketch of this scene (main image above) and I sent back a quick note:

The Knave being much bigger than Alice and having an adult body with an Insane Child head… feels wrong to me. He’s supposed to be an Insane Child who managed to escape into this version of Wonderland and took on a role working for The Queen. So… I would prefer we use the sketch version that Norman did (the one I posted above).

I was hoping for a version of The Knave based on this image from Norm:

And for the scene to be set in a place like this:

Another revision (or two) and I think we’ll be there.

Meanwhile, Joey has been working on a critical part of The Moon…

Here you can see the process she’s gone through from initial sketch to final illustration.

I really love the colors, composition of the final illustration. You may recall that this is a scene where Alice disables the Heart of The Moon in the middle of her “escape from the circus” Grand Theft Moon sequence.

This one needs to be an art print – because I want this one hung in my office ASAP!

Who else wants this one as a print?

And speaking of potential Art Prints…

This collaboration between Norm (lines) and Omri (color – coming soon) is sure to be a winner. This depicts Alice fighting her way out of The Circus with her newly acquired Crystal Vorpal Blade. Woo.

Omri says he’s starting on color for this one now. Can’t wait!
